Guglielmo Marconi
Inventor (1874-1937)
Born in Bologna, Marconi is often considered the inventor of radio. In 1901, usingequipment of his own devising, he received in Newfoundland the firsttransatlantic Morse code signal(sent from England). His development of theshipboard radio enabled the luxury liner Carpathia to turn course and rush to therescue of 717 survivors of the 1912 Titanic disaster.
