Filippo Brunelleschi
Architect (1377-1446)
If the term “workaholic” had existed in the 1400s, it would have been used todescribe Brunelleschi. We know almost nothing about his personal life; hisbuildings are his biography. Although he created two of Florence’s mostimportant churches, S. Lorenzoand S. Spirito, as well as the Pazzi Chapel, he’sbest known as the genius who designed the dome of Florence’s cathedral—amasterpiece of engineering that has never needed repair and that still dominatesthe city’s skyline.(Provided by Fra Noi/Written by Judith Anne Testa, photo byPetar Milošević) For more geniuses, go to https://www.jccia.com/genius
